01Our commitment
Squish & Wish wants every grown-up to be able to send a message to the plush they love — including people who use screen readers, keyboards, switch devices, magnification, voice control or reduced-motion settings. Our goal for the website, the web app and the mobile app is conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, and we treat accessibility as part of design and engineering, not an afterthought.
02What we do
- Semantic HTML with proper headings, landmarks, labels and button/link roles, so assistive technology can navigate every page.
- Full keyboard operability with visible focus states; nothing requires a mouse or a precise gesture.
- Text and interface contrast that meets AA in both the light and dark themes.
- Text that can be resized to 200% and layouts that reflow on small screens without horizontal scrolling.
- Decorative animation that stops when your system asks for reduced motion; no content that flashes.
- Meaningful alternative text for images; decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Forms with clear labels, inline error messages tied to their fields, and no time limits.
- Message playback in the app with visible controls and status, not audio alone.
03Known limitations
We are a small team and we know we are not perfect. Things we are aware of and working on:
- Some marketing-page illustrations and decorative animations are being reviewed for reduced-motion and contrast edge cases.
- The payment fields at checkout are provided by Stripe inside an embedded frame; we mirror our focus styling into them, but their internal accessibility is Stripe’s.
- The plush itself communicates by sound only. Every message is also shown as text in the app, with a play button, so a listener who cannot hear the plush can still read what was sent.
- Setup of the pod requires an adult to use the mobile app with camera and Bluetooth; if that is a barrier for you, contact us and we will set the pod up with you another way.
04Tell us what’s in the way
If you hit an accessibility barrier anywhere in Squish & Wish, email help@squishandwish.com with “Accessibility” in the subject line, tell us what you were trying to do and which assistive technology you use, and we will reply within 2 business days with a fix or a workaround. Feedback like this goes straight to the people who build the product.
05Standards and review
This statement is based on WCAG 2.1 AA and the principles of the Americans with Disabilities Act. We review the website and app against these criteria before each significant release, using automated checks, keyboard-only and screen-reader passes (VoiceOver and TalkBack), and reduced-motion and high-contrast settings. Statement last reviewed on the date shown above.
